Hector meets Luna
Today it finally happened. Although it’s only been a few days that our new neighbour moved in, Luna, the staffie mastiff cross, today the whining and whimpering through the blinds of my bedroom, from Hector, paid off. Bill let Hector meet Luna and it was adorable. So playful, so gentle, so beautiful.

Jeffrey Archer died, aged 86
Jeffrey Howard Archer, Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare (15 April 1940 – 5 October 2026) was an English novelist and politician.[1] He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Louth (Lincolnshire) from 1969 to 1974, but did not seek re-election after almost going bankrupt.[2] Archer revived his fortunes as a novelist. His novel Kane and Abel (1979) remains one of the best-selling books in the world, with an estimated 34 million copies sold globally.

Lena Martell died, aged 86
Lena Martell (born Helen Thomson; 15 May 1940 – October 2026) was a Scottish singer, with a long career in theatre, television and musicals. She recorded thirty albums which include the number-one UK single with “One Day at a Time” in 1979.

Dame Esther Rantzen died, aged 86
Dame Esther Louise Rantzen (22 June 1940 – 30 September 2026) was a journalist and television presenter who presented the BBC television series That’s Life! for 21 years, from 1973 until 1994. She worked with various charitable causes and founded the charities Childline, a helpline for children, which she set up in 1986, and The Silver Line, designed to combat loneliness in older people’s lives, which she set up in November 2012.

Stephanie Cole died, aged 84
Patricia Stephanie Cole (5 October 1941 – 18 September 2026) was an English stage, television, radio, and film actress, known for high-profile roles in shows such as Tenko (1981–1985), Open All Hours (1982–1985), A Bit of a Do (1989), Waiting for God (1990–1994), Keeping Mum (1997–1998), Doc Martin (2004–2009), Ed Reardon’s Week (2005–2021), Cabin Pressure (2008–2014), Coronation Street (2011–2013), Still Open All Hours (2013–2019), and Man Down (2014–2017).

Richard O’Sullivan died, aged 82
Richard O’Sullivan was an English comedy actor. He was known for his role as Robin Tripp in the TV sitcoms Man About the House (1973–1976) and its spin-off Robin’s Nest (1977–1981) and as the title character in the period adventure series Dick Turpin (1979–1982).

Fiona Davidson died, aged 85
Dr Fiona Davidson was my first HIV consultant at St Georges Hospital’s Courtyard Clinic, Tooting, South London. Fiona was a highly respected member of staff at the clinic, and I was fond of her. Fiona was born on 27th March 1937.
Towards the end of her life, she suffered with dementia. Her funeral took place on Wednesday 16th September 2026 at St Mary’s Church in Cresswell Park, London.

Dolly Parton died, aged 80
Dolly Parton was an American singer, songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman. Best known for her roles in The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, starring alongside Burt Reynolds, and 9 to 5 with co-stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Her discography is too vast to list all, it’s on Wikipedia anyway but Jolene, 9 to 5, I Will Always Love You and Here You Come Again were more than likely her biggest hit singles. I love God’s Colouring Book and Hard Candy Christmas.

Tim Curry died, aged 80
Tim Curry was an English actor and singer. He is best known for his role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show playing Frank-N Furter.

Jimmy Cricket died, aged 80
Jimmy Cricket, was a Northern Irish comedian. His catchphrase was “Come ‘ere… there’s more!”

Bill Oddie died, aged 85
was an English actor, artist, birder, comedian, conservationist, musician, songwriter, television presenter and writer. He was a member of the British comedy trio The Goodies.

Debbie’s 60th Birthday BBQ Celebration
Deb turned 60, is it ‘turned’, or ‘made it to’ to 60? Anyway, today we celebrated with the family and went to ehers and Jim’s for a BBQ. It was so good to see Kelly, Charlie, Esme and Jake again… well and the rest of the family of course. Click on the image to go to the Debbie’s 60th page.

Kevin Keegan (14 February 1951 – 20 July 2026) was an English footballer and manager who played as an attacking midfielder or forward.

Hal Williams died, aged 91
Hal Williams was an American actor. He is possibly best known for his role as Drill Sergeant L.C. Dross in the movie Private Benjamin. But he’s starred in 10 other films and TV shows, such as Kung Fu, The Waltons, Quincy M.E., Roots: The Next Generation, Knots Landing, TJ Hooker, The Dukes Of Hazzard, Hill Street Blues, Magnum P.I., Matlock and more.

Sam Neill died, aged 78
Sam Neil was a New Zealand actor. He first achieved recognition with his appearance in the film Sleeping Dogs (1977), which he followed with leading roles in My Brilliant Career (1979), Omen III: The Final Conflict, Possession (both 1981), Attack Force Z (1982), Evil Angels (also known as A Cry in the Dark) (1988), Dead Calm (1989), Death in Brunswick (1990), The Hunt For Red October (1990), The Piano (1993), In the Mouth of Madness (1994), and Event Horizon (1997). He came to international prominence as Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park (1993), a role he reprised in Jurassic Park III (2001) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).

Rodney Franklin was was an American jazz pianist and composer. Best known for ‘The Groove’ in 1980.

Bonnie Tyler died, aged 75
Bonnie Tyler was a Welsh singer and songwriter. Known for her distinctive husky voice. Hits include: ‘A Total Eclipse Of The Heart,’ ‘Holding Out For A Hero,’ ‘Lost In France’ and ‘It’s A Heartache.’

Victor Willis died, aged 74
Victor Edward Willis (July 1, 1951 – June 30, 2026) was an American singer-songwriter, who co-founded the disco group Village People. He performed as their lead singer and was co-songwriter for all of their most successful singles. Songs include: Y.M.C.A., Go West, and In The Navy. In the group, Willis performed costumed as a policeman or naval officer.

Penelope Keith died, aged 86
Penelope Keith was an English actress and presenter, active in film, radio, stage and television and primarily known for her roles in the British sitcoms The Good Life and To the Manor Born. She succeeded Lord Olivier as president of the Actors’ Benevolent Fund after his death in 1989, and was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to the arts and to charity.

Teddie was the last surviving member of The Beverley Sisters.

Movie: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ★★★★
A great film. It was quite funny throughout, too. This was also my first movie seen on Jezz’s new projector and screen.

TV drama: Half Man ★★★★★
This is one of the most intense dramas I’ve ever seen. Jamie Bell stars as Niall and Richard Gadd as Ruben, playing half-brothers born to different lovers. Niall endures years of torment and abuse from Ruben but Ruben remains his protector throughout their lives. Even years later as they strive to prove their success, trouble arises from the outset. For me, Richard Gadd steals the show in the hopsital scene.

Roger Cook died, aged 83
Roger Cook was a New Zealand-born British investigative journalist and television broadcaster. In 1997 he won a BAFTA special award “for 25 years of outstanding quality investigative reporting”, for his show The Cook Report.

Roy Hattersley died, aged 93
Roy Hattersley, (28 December 1932 – 13 June 2026) was a British politician, author and journalist from Sheffield. A member of the Labour Party, he was MP for Birmingham Sparkbrook for over 32 years from 1964 to 1997, and served as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party from 1983 to 1992.

Peabo Bryson died, aged 75
Peabo Bryson was an American singer and songwriter. During his career he won two Grammy awards and collaborated with Luther Vandross and Cissy Houston. He duetted with Regina Belle, Celine Dion and I remember him best for his single with Roberta Flack: ‘Tonight I Celebrate My Love.’

Anthony Head died, aged 72
Anthony Head was an English actor and singer. Primarily a performer in musical theatre, he rose to fame in the UK in the 1980s following his role in the Gold Blend couple television advertisements for Nescafé, which led to major roles in several television series.

Judith Chalmers died, aged 90
Judith Chalmers was was an English television and radio presenter. She was best known for presenting the ITV travel series Wish You Were Here…? from 1974 to 2003.

Went to see Vicki
Jezz, Hector and I drove down to see Vicki at her new place (that’s she been in since December of last year but you know). It was great to see her again after such a long time.

Alan Rothwell died, aged 89
Alan Rothwell (9 February 1937 – 14 May 2026) was an English actor. He played David Barlow in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street as a regular from 1960 to 1961, and again from 1963 to 1968, and Nicholas Black in Brookside between 1985 and 1986. His other acting credits include playing Mike in Top Secret (1961–1962), a recurring role in Heartbeat (1994–1995), and various roles in Doctors (2004–2016). He also presented the children’s television series Picture Box and Hickory House.

Today is Hector’s birthday, born on 10th May 2025.

Test drove the Kia EV3
Billy, the sales guy, asked me about their competition and I mentioned the C-HR+. He replied, “Oh that’s okay then… you’re definitely choosing us.” He was right. After 30 minutes driving this incredible electric vehicle I was hooked. The technology is top-notch.
UPDATE: It’s ordered, 1st May and ready for handover on 7th August 2026. I can’t wait!

What a stunning car to drive. All the luxury of a Lexus in this re-vamped C-HR all-electric small SUV. I loved my last one and this one is even better.

Elsie Kelly died, aged 89
Elsie Kelly was an English actress. With a career spanning five decades, she appeared in various television shows including Crossroads, The Famous Five and Harry and the Wrinklies, before taking on the role of Noreen Maltby on the ITV sitcom Benidorm.

Alan Osmond died, aged 76
Alan Osmond was an American singer and musician. He was best known for being a member of the family musical group The Osmonds.

Andy Kershaw died, aged 66
Andy Kershaw was an English broadcaster and disc jockey (DJ), predominantly on radio, and known for his interest in world music. He presented shows on BBC Radio 1 from 1985 until 2000 and co-presented BBC television coverage of the 1985 Live Aid concert.

Moya Brennan died, aged 73
Moya Brennan was an Irish folk singer, songwriter, harpist and philanthropist. She is best known as the lead vocals for the band Clannad and features in the single: Theme From Harry’s Game amongst others.

Nick Pope died, aged 61
Nick Pope was a regular guest on one of History Channel’s longest running series Ancient Aliens and appeared on UFOs Declassified. In addition, he was an English media commentator, author, and onetime civil servant. Whilst an employee at the British Government’s Ministry of Defence (MoD), Pope was responsible, among other duties, for investigating UFO phenomena to determine if they had any defence significance. In February 2026, he announced he had Stage IV cancer, which had metastasized.

Amanda drove down
Amanda came down to see us and we exchanged birthday gifts. She insisted I open mine, and she’d bought me the limited edition of the Metals, Step One underwear collection. She’d also bought us both an Easter egg each and finally, she made me a birthday cake. It’s morello Cherry Bakewell flavour.

James Tolkan died, aged 94
James Tolkan was an American character actor. What I can’t get past is his uncanny resemblance to Sir Jon Gielgud, particularly in his later years. James Tolkan was best known for his roles as high school vice-principal in charge of discipline Mr. Strickland in Back to the Future (1985) and Back to the Future Part II (1989). He also played the character’s ancestor, Marshal James Strickland, in Back to the Future Part III. (1990). His other memorable film roles include Serpico (1973), Love and Death (1975), Prince of the City (1981), Top Gun (1986), Masters of the Universe (1987), Viper (1988), Dick Tracy (1990), and Problem Child 2 (1991). He’s also appeared in TV shows including; Hill Street Blues, Remington Steele, Miami Vice, The Equaliser, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, The Wonder Years and many more.

A good thriller about a couple who are given a life-changing decision to own a mansion for free in exchange to never open the cellar door. But what was in the cellar in the first place?

Movie: No Good Deed ★★★★★
Another great thriller starring Idris Elba and Taraj P. Henson. Gripping to watch. Loved it.

Chuck Norris died, aged 86
Chuck Norris was an American martial artist, actor, and author. He held black belts in karate, taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and judo. His acting career featured him in movies including: A Force of One (1979), The Octagon (1980), and An Eye for an Eye (1981), which elevated him to international fame. He later starred in studio productions such as Silent Rage (1982), Forced Vengeance (1982), and Lone Wolf McQuade (1983). His success led Cannon Films to sign him to a multi‑picture deal beginning with Missing in Action (1984), which launched a trilogy and cemented his status as the company’s leading star throughout the 1980s. Meal out: The Star of India, Cheam Village
Jezz and I went to the Indian restaurant The Star in Cheam Village to meet Nik, Caiger and Zoe. The occasion was to celebrate Nik’s 61st birthday. Food was great if a little slow but then it was a Saturday so. Caiger paid for us all.

John Alford died, aged 54
John Alford was a British actor, convicted child sex offender and drug dealer.[1] He played Robbie Wright in the BBC series Grange Hill (1985–1990) and Billy Ray in the ITV series London’s Burning (1993–1998). He also had three Top 30 hits on the UK singles chart in 1996. Smoke Gets In Your Eyes (#13), Blue Moon/Only You (#9) and If/Keep On Running (#24).
He was convicted in 2025 and received a prison sentence for 8 and a half years. He was found dead in his prison cell on 13 March 2026.

Ju’s funeral service
We were all there to pay our respects at Lower Morden crematorium. It was a pleasant service with lovely memories and tributes.

Hector’s first 6 monthly check-up
Jezz and I drove Hector to his first bi-annual check up at the vets, Creature Comforts in Putney. All is well except we have to cut down on how much we’re feeding him.

Hector has his own electric toothbrush
On one of the rare occasions that Hector was upstairs with us, he was staring while I brushed my teeth with my electric toothbrush. As is always the case, I show him everything so that he never grows up afraid, and so I put my toothbrush in his mouth while it was on. Instead of running from it, as I thought he might, he just let me do it! So, needless to say, he now his own electric toothbrush that we use every night.
