THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW HIS FACE
Jezz and I met on 7 November 2000 at Legends club and hotel, Marine Parade, Brighton. It was formerly known as The New Europe Hotel and is regarded as a vital part of the gay scene in Brighton and most popular with people who visit and need somewhere to stay.
I was in the bar area on the street level of the building and was with Paul, who at the time was Pete’s boyfriend. We sat and watched the comings and goings and observed those who were guests staying at the hotel and those who were just customers of the bar. At one point, this tall slim, slightly camp guy, comes through the side door and has luggage, so it was obvious that he was staying in the hotel and was going to check-in. But he left the luggage and went back outside and came in with easily as much luggage as before. My thought was that he was with someone else who had perhaps gone to park their car. About 30 minutes later, he appears again, at the bar and we get talking to him. He said his name is Jezz and then startled us by saying that he was alone. I questioned the amount of luggage he had, expecting him to say that he was a drag artist or other performer and that was his costumes we saw earlier. But it wasn’t, it was just his day wear and night wear (as in going out, not pyjamas). We had a couple of drinks together and then all decided to head to the Amsterdam next door and try out their sauna in the basement. It wasn’t too busy, but before long, Jezz and I were involved in a threesome with some other guy on his own. With Paul going back to London later that day, Jezz and I were in each other’s company for the entire week, shopping all day and socialising and drinking of an evening. We bought each other gifts every day and he was so charming and adorable.

Jezz moved away from his home in Milton Keynes and stayed with work colleagues in Purley, Surrey. He worked as a co-licensee at The Gypsy Moth pub in The Colonnades, Purley Way, Croydon. He would come to work with me some days when I was working as a booking clerk at a limousine hire company based in Charlwood, near Gatwick Airport.
Special days out have included being chauffeur driven in a stretch limousine to the Royal Albert Hall to see Victoria Wood. Another limo hire for 5 hours driving around London’s West End and South London on a gay pub crawl with my sister Nikki, her two friends Fran and Laurie, and flatmate Paul.
He was very supportive and with me totally when Kingston Hospital’s A&E department told me that Betty had died, Christmas Eve 2001 and we had to drive to New Malden and tell my Dad (Nik was also with us).

He was with me to help organise Dad’s 80th birthday celebration and the evening meal at Kelong Chinese restaurant in Waddon, along with the creation of the ‘This Is Your Life’ style photo album.
